Convert JPG to PNG

Convert JPG photos to PNG without compressing them again.

Your data is never sent to any server.

The JPG to PNG converter turns your photos into a lossless format. It does not improve the image, but it guarantees it will not lose more quality no matter how often you edit and save it later. It runs in your browser, without uploading anything and with no file limit.

When it makes sense

  • You will edit the image several times: every JPG save compresses again and piles up artifacts; PNG does not.
  • PNG is required: some platforms, templates or design programs only accept this format.
  • You want to add transparency later: editors need a format with an alpha channel to erase the background.

If you only want to share the photo, keep the JPG: it is much lighter and looks the same.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting to PNG improve the JPG's quality?

No. The PNG keeps exactly what the JPG has, including its compression artifacts. What it does prevent is losing more quality from then on.

Why is the PNG so much larger?

Because PNG stores every pixel without discarding anything, while JPG compresses by removing detail. It is normal for the PNG of a photograph to be several times larger than the JPG.

So what is it for?

Editing the image several times without it degrading on every save, programs or platforms that require PNG, and as a first step before adding transparency in an editor.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

No. A JPG has no transparency, so the resulting PNG is opaque. Removing the background requires an editor.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The whole process runs in your browser.
