Convert HEIC to JPG
Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG without uploading them anywhere, one at a time or whole folders.
Your data is never sent to any server.
The HEIC to JPG converter turns your iPhone photos into the format every program, website and computer can open. It runs entirely in your browser: the photos are not uploaded to any server, so it is as private as using an installed app, and there is no limit on the number of photos.
Why your photos are in HEIC
Since 2017 the iPhone has saved photos as HEIC, a format that uses the same compression as HEVC videos. It takes roughly half the space of a JPG, but Windows needs a separate extension to open it and many websites and forms reject it. Converting to JPG solves those problems at the cost of a somewhat larger file.
How it works
- Nothing leaves your device. The photo is read, decoded and compressed again inside your browser.
- It uses your device’s decoder. The HEVC image is decompressed by the same component that plays video on your device, which its manufacturer has already licensed.
- It uses every core. Photos are converted in parallel without freezing the page.
- It respects orientation and color. The photo comes out rotated as you see it on your phone and keeps the iPhone’s wide-gamut color profile.
- No limits. Each result is written to disk as soon as it is ready, so you can convert a folder with thousands of photos.
How to use HEIC to JPG
- 1
Add your HEIC photos
Drag them onto the drop area or click to choose them. You can drop whole folders, subfolders included, and there is no limit on the number of photos.
- 2
Choose quality and metadata
Quality 90 is recommended. Also decide what happens to the metadata: remove only the location, keep everything or remove everything.
- 3
Convert
Press convert. The photos are processed in parallel on your own device and none of them leaves it.
- 4
Download the JPGs
Download each photo separately, all of them in a ZIP or, in Chrome and Edge, straight into a folder on your computer.
Frequently asked questions
What is a HEIC file?
It is the format the iPhone has used for photos since iOS 11, and some Android phones offer it as an option. It takes about half the space of a JPG at the same quality, but many programs, websites and Windows computers cannot open it.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The whole process runs in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.
How many photos can I convert at once?
As many as you want. Each JPG is saved to the browser's temporary storage as soon as it is ready, so memory does not fill up even with thousands of photos. The only limit is the free space on your disk.
Do I lose quality going from HEIC to JPG?
JPG compresses somewhat less efficiently than HEIC, so the file is larger. At quality 90 the difference from the original is not visible to the eye. If you need maximum detail, raise the quality to 100.
What happens to the date and location of the photo?
You choose. By default the date and camera model are kept and the GPS coordinates are removed, so you do not accidentally share where you took the photo. You can also keep everything or remove everything.
Why does it not work in my browser?
To read HEIC the tool uses the video decoder your device already has, the same one that plays HEVC videos. Chrome and Edge use it on Windows, Mac and Android when the device decodes HEVC in hardware, as almost all recent ones do, and Safari uses it on iPhone and Mac. Firefox does not offer it yet.
How do I make my iPhone save photos as JPG?
Go to Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos will be saved as JPG, although they will take roughly twice the space.
